U3A Ukelelees people have been meeting every week under the tutorship of Rev David Fry, to learn ukulele, and are now ready to share their music at the Gulgong Folk Festival. Rev. Dr. David , who prefers to be called just David, has coached a group of keen women and sometimes some of the men turn up, to play ‘and sing’ of course ukulele. David has been involved with U3A (University of the third Age) for the best of 13 years, and his total years of teaching music is 70 years. He is a highly accomplished musician, including recorders (tenor, bass, descant) being amongst some of the instruments he teaches as well as keyboard. David considers the Ukelele to be a ‘fun’ instrument, good for the whole family, being a lot simpler than a guitar
and also good for beginners to music.
The group will be performing during the Folk Festival at Coronation Park at the Markets on the 2nd of January at 11.00 am. It being a holiday time there will be only 5 performers, but please come along and enjoy – you could even sing along as most of the tunes will be easily recognizable.
