Josh Maynard is a seventeen year old self taught musician from Cowra, NSW. Like most boys in the area he grow up playing sports and at around thirteen his interest began to change. His father introduced him to drums at the age of four and at ten he picked up his first guitar. He was always somewhat musical. His first public performance at fifteen was in the Cowra Home Grown music competition where he was lucky enough to receive a first place. This was a major turning point for him as he then focused more on his guitar playing and vocal ability.
Josh than began to busk everywhere he could and for any young musician this is the best way to develop as an artist. Busking builds confidence, helps to develop stage presence and most of all it provided him with a good solid foundation for his professional development. BUSK, BUSK and BUSK again.
He then went to win eight following competitions including the Henry Lawson Festival, Canowindra Bushrangers Festival and his recent win at the Australian National Busking Championship, secondary division.
As a young artist he classes his original music genre as Folk/Rock and he gathers inspiration from lyricists like Bob Dylan, James Taylor to his biggest musical influence Shane Howard.
Josh always wanted to be an independent artist and this he currently achieves by releasing his first album ‘Escape From Reality’.
